Chipata Clinic fumes drive out neighbour

NOEL IYOMBWA writes AFTER six years of enduring the fumes from an incinerator at Chipata Clinic, a family of Chipata compound has decided to sell the house in order to settle elsewhere. Kennedy Makukula has complained to relevant authorities over the incinerator which was constructed few meters from his house which he has been occupying for many years. He said that despite many attempts to write to different bodies, the ministry of health has promised him that the family will be compensated so that they can relocate but that nothing has been done. Mr. Makukula said that because of the pollution from the incinerator tenants have been avoiding to stay at his house which is the only source of income for the family. He said that he has decided to sell the house so that he can find another place to settle because the incinerator is a health to his family especially the young children. He explained that the incinerator which is next to his house was constructed after his house and when clinic authorities dispose of waste material mainly fetus they flow into his yard. Mr. Makukula said that despite logging complaints both through the media and written communication nothing has been done. “I have decided to sell the house so that I find another place to stay with my family due to the same problem, people have stopped renting my house. They would move in but immediately they discover the problem, they shift. “The house is my only source of income because I am not working so this means that I have lost income to sustain my family and take my children to school. “Ministry of Health promised to buy the house but up to now they have not responded to us concerning their promise and we are dying slowly,” he said.
