MULENGA MUSONDA writes THE Choma Magistrates Court has convicted four men for stealing goats and battery from an orphanage. In this matter Hilla Mapenzi, 29, and Rubie Mapenzi, 39, stood charged with Stock Theft Contrary to the Laws of Zambia. In the other count but on the same indictment Mike Chimuka, 42, and Mutinta Simunza, 23, were jointly charged with Theft of a Battery. In count 1 the Mapenzi brothers jointly and whilst acting together stole 2 Goats valued at K400 the property of New Day Orphanage. In the second count, Chimuka jointly and whilst acting together with Simunza stole 1 Solar Battery valued at K1,200 the property of the named Orphanage. The thefts happened on 21 January 2020 and between 1st February and 2nd February 2020 for the second count. When the matter came up for Facts before Magistrate MuyambangoMunukayumbwa following a plea of guilty by all the four accused persons, they all admitted that the facts of the offence were true and correct after public prosecutor Coillard Sikwalulwa made the dictation . After finding them guilty in their own admission, Magistrates Munukayumbwa convicted them accordingly. In passing sentence the Court observed that the four were of youthful age and showed remorse for their actions. He thus sentenced each one of them to 6 months imprisonment with hard labour but suspended the sentences for 12 months in which they are not to commit any similar offence. The four were informed of their right to appeal to the High Court within 14 days if they were not happy with the outcome. The Sun
