UPND TO FERRY MALAWIAN VOTERS
By NATION REPORTERUPND Eastern Province Chairperson Mr Johabie Mtonga has denied crossing into Malawi in Muzimba District to make arrangements to ferry Malawian nationals holding Zambian National Registration Cards (NRCs) and voters’ cards respectively to vote in the 12 August, 2021 Presidential and general elections. Mr Mtonga has denied having travelled to Malawi to meet Malawian nationals.  Earlier, a reliable source in Chadiza District however told the Daily Nation that Mr Mtonga met some Malawian nationals that the UPND helped to register for the 12 August polls. During the meeting which was held at a place called Genda, Mr Mtonga reportedly  advised the Malawian nationals not to be scared stating that the opposition party would protect them. He allegedly told them that even the ruling Patriotic Front has mobilized voters in the area. But when contacted for a comment, Mr Mtonga denied having gone to Malawi at that particular day. “Who told you I was in Malawi? No, that is not true, I was not in Malawi and I don’t know what you are talking about,” Mr Mtonga said. Recently, the News Diggers newspaper published a story where it alleged that over 20,000 foreigners were illegally registered as Zambian voters and NRCS cards respectively.
