Makembo salutes FAZ
SUN SPORTS writes ZAMBIA Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) patron Peter Makembo has hailed the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for supplementing President Edgar Lungu’s efforts in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. In an interview, Makembo said the decision to end the MTN/FAZ Super Division prematurely would help stop the spread of the pandemic which has claimed many lives in Zambia. Makembo said the Covid-19 pandemic fight is a global challenge which requires the commitment of all stakeholders. He said continuing with the games would endanger the lives of players from deferent clubs which compete in the Super Division and the National Division one League. “We commend FAZ for the bold decision to end the league at Week-27. This is commendable because the positive cases of Covid-19 keeps on increasing and going on with the games would put the lives of players at risk of being infected. “Already a number of players such as Forest Rangers, Zanaco, Zesco, Power Dynamos, Nkana and Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy reported several positive cases of Covid-19 which is not good for the country at large,” Makembo said. He however urged the ministry of health to be proactive and announce results 24 hours after conducting the test. Makembo said it is unfortunate that some people and other sports clubs are still awaiting their results a week after they have been tested. He said delays in giving out results to the affected individuals and athletes who go for check-ups would promote the spread of the pandemic because of not knowing their statuses. The Sun
