CHAN is an opportunity to redeem Chipolopolo – Kamanga
AARON MUBANGA writes @SunZambian THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga says Chipolopolo Boys coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević has been given a target of reaching the semi-finals at next month’s CAF 2021 CHAN Tournament in Cameroon. And Kamanga also said that Zambia needs to redeem her failures by having a good tournament in Cameroon. “I think this where we need to put in more effort. This CHAN is an opportunity to redeem our failures,” Kamanga said Kamanga also accepted that the Chipolopolo Boys have under-performed compared to the developmental and women national teams. “Off course the senior national team remains the flagship of Chipolopolo. I think this where we need to put in more effort.” While qualifying to African Cup of Nations has been a birth right for Zambia before Kamanga took over the reigns at Football House, the Chipolopolo Boys missed the last two editions. And having picked just 3 points from a possible 12 points, Micho is under pressure to perform in Cameroon. “We are likely to miss AFCON for a third time in row, so Micho has to deliver CHAN,” a Chipolopolo faithful argued at Nkoloma Stadium on Monday. With that pressure mounting from the fans who are the main stakeholders, Kamanga didn’t miss his words stating that the FAZ technical committee would review the performance of the team. Zambia is in the same group with West Africans minnows Guinea and neighbours Tanzania and Namibia. Looks like a Cosafa Cup group! Aggrey Chiyangi qualified the team to CHAN and this will be the fourth time, the local guns will be featuring at the Tournament. Frenchman Herve Renard came third in 2009 while George Lwandamina and Wedson Nyirenda reached the quarter finals in 2016 and 2018 respectively. –
