A 22-YEAR-OLD man in Solwezi has died after a tunnel where he was digging copper ore caved in and buried him alive. The man is believed to have come from Mulenga area of Solwezi. North-western Province Commissioner of Police, Elias Chushi, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Trackson Kalotaof Njamba village in Chief Kapijimpanga’s area. “We received a report of sudden and unnatural death, which occurred on 12th August 2020 around 17: 00 hours at an illegal mine within Mulenga area. “Rodgers Kalota aged 27, reported that his young brother TracksonKalota aged 22 died after being buried alive by a tunnel where he was digging alluvial copper ore from,” Mr Chushi explained. Mr Chushi said rescuers tried their best to save him but to no avail and that the body was deposited in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary. Meanwhile, an eight-year-old girl has died after being hit by a speeding motor vehicle at Mumbezhi area on Kabompo-Zambezi road. Queen Maki, a grade two pupil at Chizozu Primary School died on the spot after being hit by M’kanwa Chewa aged 44 of Kitwe who was driving a Toyota Hilux registration number ALF 6895. “The fatal road traffic accident occurred on 13th August 2020 at around 14:08 hours along Kabompo Zambezi road at Mumbezhi area. “Involved was M’kanwa Chewa aged 44 of Kitwe who whilst driving a Toyota Hilux ALF 6895 in the direction of west to east due to excessive hit a pedestrian namely Queen Maki aged 8 of Sangelendevillage Kabompo,” Mr Chushi said. Mr Chushi said the body was deposited in Kabompo Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while the driver is in custody for causing death by dangerous driving. – ZANIS The Sun
