JUVENILE KILLER SENT TO KATOMBORA
CHINTU MALAMBO writes THE Lusaka High court has sentenced a Juvenile, who murdered his 20-year-old friend at Lusaka’s JCS bar during a drinking spree last year, to Katombora Reformatory School for counseling and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, High court Judge Annessie Banda-Bobo cautioned young people to be alert with their surrounding and the manner in which they take alcohol. She said this yesterday after finding the 18- year old male Juvenile guilty as charged. Justice Bobo ordered that the Juvenile be enrolled back in school and the report relating to the counselling should be sent to the Social Welfare every after 6 months until the completion of school. On April 6, 2019 the juvenile murdered Sebastian Lungu, 20, of Mtendere East by stabbing him in the neck with a piece of broken bottle during a drinking spree at JCS night club at around 21:00hours in Lusaka’s Longacres area following an altercation. The late Sebastian Lungu During trial, the State called five witnesses who testified against the juvenile. In defence, the juvenile denied killing his friend and claimed that he could not remember what happened on the material date because he was intoxicated. Judge Banda-Bobo convicted the juvenile and ruled that his defence of intoxication was not sufficient since there was no medical statement produced in court to prove the claim. In passing the judgement, the court has came to a conclusion that the boy was indeed 18-years-old after the digital and analogue medical tests revealed that the he was between 18 and 25 years. Judge Banda-Bobo accepted the Social Welfare’s recommendation that there was need for the convict to undergo serious counselling at Katombora Reformatory School where he can continue his education if he so wishes.
