CHIMWEMWE LOSING CANDIDATES CLAIMS WATER BOREHOLE COST HIM VICTORY
By SANFROSSA MANYINDAUPND Chimwemwe losing Parliamentary candidate has explained to the court how voters in Lubuto ward told him that they would vote for a candidate who sunk them a borehole. This is in a matter where UPND’s Bornwell Matanda has challenged the election of PF’s Allen Banda who was declared winner in the August 12 polls. The petition is before Lusaka High Court Judge Bubile Shonga sitting in Ndola.Matanda said the sinking of the borehole by Banda disadvantaged him. “The first respondent started constructing a borehole in a ward which has over 6,000 registered voters. The sinking of the borehole was done by Banda with posters.” This disadvantaged me because the electorates said they would vote for the person who gave them water. I did not win this ward, because people where influenced by the water given to them,” Mr Matanda said.He further went on and alleged that Mr Banda was also involved in malpractices in Twatasha ward.He said Twatasha ward had over 10,000 voters stating that PF and Mr Banda could not campaign effectively without giving money to the voters.Mr Matanda explained that he at the time had no capacity to pay people to vote for him.He however assured the court that he had enough evidence of money exchanging that he would soon present before the court.
