Solar street lights cheer Chifubu residents
MARY PHIRI writes CHIFUBU Residents have expressed happiness with Government’s decision to put up solar street lights in the area in a bid to tighten security. The residents applauded Government for embarking on such a project adding that the street lights would provide safety for the residents. Speaking in an interview with the sun newspaper yesterday, John Bwalya one of the residents, said street lights provided safety for pedestrians, drivers and riders. “Putting up of Street lights will help to reduce crime in our area, we are very happy that our streets will no longer be a danger to the residents,” he said. Another resident, Chimwemwe Mutale, added that the project was an indication that Government was listening to the plight of the people. “We thank our councillor for coming up with such an initiative which is going to benefit the people of Chifubu. Our community is looking beautiful at night and we are even feeling safe walking at night, “she said. Chifubu ward councillor, Friday Sikazwe, said the project was being done using Ward Development Fund. He said the project was aimed at powering all the major roads in the ward in an effort to provide safety to the residents. “We therefore urge the residents to guard these properties jealously and avoid vandalizing them, because this is benefiting not only the residents but also the city as a whole,” Mr Sikazwe said. The councillor further appealed to the residents to be paying rates to the local authority adding that it was through the rates that such projects were being done. The Sun
