Zambia to hold high Christian declaration

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says his government will continue to hold high the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation.The President said the church has continued to play a critical role in the area of health and education thereby making it possible to work together in developing the country.President Lungu said church members and politicians have the same needs hence the need for the church to work with government in developing the country.“If we don’t mix politics with the church, we will fail because we have the same needs,” he observed.President said this when he met the clergy at Mableshaw Secondary School in Mwansabombwe on Monday.The Republican President has told the clergy in Mwansabombwe not to be cheated as change will only come when time is ripe.President Lungu further described as in vain religious leaders who have teamed up to usher in a Christian president as it will not hold because all leaders including those in the PF party are Christian.“We are aware that some of you are forming groups to spearhead the call to usher in a Christian President, it doesn’t hold because we are all Christians,” he said.He has since called for continued collaboration between the church and government.And representing the Clergy, Pastor Nobert Besa from Baptist Church called on the Republican President to consider revamping the Mwansabombwe Farmers Training Institute.“We call upon you your Excellency to consider revamping the Farmers Training Institute so that our children can acquire skills,” he said.Pastor Besa also called on government to address the water challenges being faced in the District. – ZANIS The Sun
