IN his continued service to the community, Mayor of Lusaka Miles Sampa visited Matero United football club in the company of Zambian Breweries officials in a quest to advance club sponsorship.
“I have brought you these people from Zambian Breweries, first who doesn’t drink their products here? They produce alcohol the one which makes you dance, kiss and wawawa – and non-alcoholic beverages but I believe most of you have tasted their products. So our visit is to familiarise yourself with them so that we see how best they can help you as Matero united,” said Sampa.
And Materto United team manager Bernard Nkonde expressed hope that the community based team would be able to get additional support to help advance football as a viable career option for the youth.
Nkonde noted that it was encouraging for the Mayor to actively support the quest to use sports as a tool for development as well as sourcing potential sponsors.
“His words and encouragement have strengthened and boosted our moral. Seeing that there are good plans for the community, especially the team Matero United because we are lacking many things but this visit give us a green light that something good is coming.
“Zambian Breweries have done it before somewhere else, we are also looking forward to see them come on board to help the team,” said Nkonde.
And Zambian Breweries legal and corporate affairs director Ezekiel Sekeli thanked the mayor for recognising their community works.
“We remain humble and also count it as a blessing that God is allowing us to help in our community and also God is allowing us to draw more people away from abusing alcohol,” said Sekeli
“Our advice to you the youths is that drink responsibly. You’re the future leaders of this country.
“As much as you’re taking our products (alcohol) we are ensuring that you stop abusing alcohol and or abusing drugs, so gentlemen this activity that you are doing is an important one.”
He encouraged the players to be disciplined as they compete in community football as it would set a firm foundation for their future.
