MATHEWS NDANDULA writes@SunZambianIN a bid to enhance national development and contribute to access to quality education, Texila American University (TAU) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Zambia Union of Nurses Organization (ZUNO) that will see students get a 15% discount for all ZUNO registered members and 30% discount to ZUNO executive members.The discounts are towards Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Public Health and Master of Business Administration Programmes offered by TAU.Speaking shortly before the signing celemony, TAU deputy vice chancellor Dr Vijayakumar Rajarathinam said the move is aimed at improving the quality of standards in the heath sector.“The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Texila American University and Zambia Union of Nurses Organization is in line with our aim to build meaningful partnerships between ourselves as a university and key institutions that are working tirelessly to bring excellence to Zambia’s Health Sector.“As Texila American University, we aim to redefine and revolutionize international education by offering updated, modern and excellent training in areas of Health Sciences, Information and Communication Technology, Management, Education, Applied Sciences and all possible areas that a learner seeks to engage in with TAU. It is our mission to provide high quality, research driven education that transforms students into responsible, educated, employable and entrepreneurial citizens,” he said.Speaking at the same event ZUNO president Tisa Chiponde said the learning package that the university is offering will enable many nurses and midwives access quality education and gain the required competencies.“This memorandum of understanding we are signing today gives direction and strengthen the nursing profession by ensuring an educated, competent and motivated nursing and midwifery workforce within effective and responsive health system at all levels and different settings,” said Chiponde.Dr Rajarathinam added that the main goal of the institution of learning is to make sure that when students are done with their studies, they leave the University with the drive to bring positive change in whatever area of expertise they are trained in.“Texila American University as an institution of higher learning holds an unwavering mission to contribute to the development and sustenance of the well-being of the people of Zambia and the world through provision of flexible, innovative, entrepreneurial, inclusive programs of teaching, learning, research and service,” he said.He added that TAU Zambia shall provide a tuition fee discount of 10% towards the children of a ZUNO Member for studies in Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery; Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Diploma in Nursing and Diploma in Pharmacy.
