Serenje farmers receive D-Compound fertiliser
BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes THE speedy delivery of D-Compound fertiliser by NyimbaInvestment will contribute to the area recording a bumper harvest, says Serenje District Commissioner, Francis Kalipenta. Mr Kalipenta expressed optimism that the delivery which was early meant that the area would have better yield. He said the early delivery of D-Compound by Nyimba Investment would give impetus to the farmers to quickly deposit the K400 required for a farmer to benefit from the direct input supply programme. Nyimba Investment was engaged to distribute 40,875.55 metric tonnes of D-Compound for the 12 districts of Central province. He was speaking over the weekend when Nyimba Investment Head-Sales and Marketing Willings Mulendema was in the area to update the administration on the progress that the company has made in as far as delivering farming inputs for the 2020/21 farming season is concerned. “It is very encouraging that Nyimba has heed to the president’s call to deliver the inputs on time so that our farmers can be encouraged to make the deposits early,” said Mr Kalipenta. Mr Kalipenta said other companies that had been engaged to supply the inputs for Serenje and the entire province should emulate Nyimba by delivering on time. Serenje District Agricultural Coordinator (DACO), Jacob Shawa, said in the previous farming season, entire Central Province was able to register a maize production output of 600,000 metric tonnes out of the national yield of 3,387.469 metric tonnes that the country recorded. Mr Shawa predicted that the output for the entire province might even be higher than during the previous season because of the early delivery of Compound D by Nyimba. “We are delighted as a ministry to received D- Compound and what you have done as Nyimba will help our farmers to be motivated to deposit and this will in turn result into Central province as a whole recording a bumper harvest,” said Mr Shawa. And Mr Mulendema said that Nyimba has so far delivered over 50 percent of the total tonnage that the company was contracted to supply.  Mr Mulendema said his company would be able to complete the delivery of the total tonnage by the end of July. “As Nyimba we are grateful that the government gave us chance to supply and we have so far delivered 50 percent. We wish to assure the government and our farmers that we will not fail them,” he said. The Sun
