By ANDREW MUKOMAGOVERNMENT will next year construct a Cancer Diseases Hospital in Livingstone, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has announced.The development, according to the minister, was in line with the PF Government’s transformation agenda.Dr Chilufya announced this in Livingstone yesterday on arrival at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport before leaving for Kazungula Border.“In the quest not to leave anyone behind in expanding universal health coverage, Livingstone Central Hospital is the new host to Cancer Diseases Centre.“Construction will begin next year in 2021. This is in line with the PF Government’s transformation agenda of universal health care,” he said.Dr Chilufya said that the new cancer disease hospital would help in curbing congestion of patients at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.The minister who was with a team of health experts, said he and his team had arrived to offer technical support to the team on the ground in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.Dr Chilufya said the opening up of boarders by neighbouring countries was important for Livingstone and other screening districts heighten their covid-19 screening points.He however expressed delight that no cases had been recorded in Livingstone in the last two weeks adding that this was due to the effectiveness of response management by health workers.
