Kanyama MP cheers football youth talent
MATHEWS NDANDULA writes @SunZambianSILAZI emerged victors in the Independence football tournament held in Kanyama Constituency after beating the home team Blazer football club 1 – 2 at Chibolya Grounds over the weekend.Officiating at the football tournament, Kanyama Member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri said the football competition was part of the community activities aimed at keeping youths active.“I want to keep the youths busy, as you know Chibolya is known for criminal activities that is why you are seeing me here today,” she said.“I don’t want them to drink or smoke anything that will destroy their lives I want them safe and football is among the sports that keep the youths busy as well as being united.“From here we want to produce the footballers who will play in the national team and even in bigger leagues outside this country,” said Ms Phiri. The area MP, who is also Minister of Gender, said Kanyama has produced a lot of sports men and women the likes of Augustine Mulenga – now playing in South Africa’s top league – as well as boxers like Josep ‘No Pressure’Chingangu and Catherine Phiri.Ms Phiri says as a member of parliament she will lobby from the officials at the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to visit Kanyama during football tournaments to identify young talent that can join the national team just like Augustine Mulenga who is representing the constituency well. She thanked President Lungu and the party leadership in Kanyama for their continued support towards development in her constituency.Speaking at the same event Kanyama Constituency chairman David Sichinga urged the youths to support the efforts of the Member of Parliament so that she can even do more than expected.
