JUST like I defended President Edgar Lungu, I will take on anyone who would demean President elect Hakainde Hichilema, the New Congress Party leader Peter Chanda has said.
Mr Chanda said he had set a precedence and would not allow anyone to demean the presidency. He said this at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday.
“I protected the office of the republican President in the previous Governments and I don’t wish to change the tide now. “Thus, I will take on anyone who will insult HH,” Mr Chanda said.
He however said his party would not work with the ruling UPND as his pre-occupation was to offer credible checks and balances. ” Mine is to offer checks and balances and not to go in to an alliance with the UPND, I am principled on that,” he said. He also reiterated that his party was already in alliance with the PF.
Meanwhile, Mr Chanda has congratulated the Presidentelect for winning the just ended elections with a landslide. He also thanked Mr Hichilema for choosing the path of unity and reconciliation.
