Mwakalombe ‘lifts up’ disabled child
JOHN KOMBE writes A MOTHER of a seven-year-old disabled boy of Obama area in Madido Ward of Chongwe district could not hide her joy when she received a wheelchair from Japhen Mwakalombe Trust. The wheelchair was delivered and handed over to the family by representative of Japhen Mwakalombe Trust Thomas Sinkonde. Ms Virginia Bushiri Bwalya told The Sun that the donation was a gesture of goodwill from the trust and a great honour. The mother, who is a widow, said her disabled child could not walk and needed a wheelchair to aid his movements. She said the donation would mitigate the suffering of the child and the family as a whole as now he will be able to socialise with his peers and enroll in a special school with ease. She thanked the trust for the donation and hoped more disabled children would be helped in a similar manner because having a disabled child who had no wheelchair had been a burden to the family. She said such a gesture should be emulated by other well-wishers as it was important to remember the needy if they would have a decent and happy life. The boy’s mother appealed to other well-wishers to come to the aid of the child as he had a nutritional problem requiring a special diet which she could not afford. She said the child also needed diapers which were proving very costly for her especially that she was a widow. Madido Ward councillor Mathews Ngosa thanked the Japhen Mwkalombe Trust for the donation. He said giving was an obligation to all those who counted themselves as privileged. “Giving is a way of saying ‘thank you’ to God and as such is a form of worship and must be our daily practice,” Mr Ngosa said.  He said the donation would help to brighten the days of the family and the child and would be treasured. He urged other organisations and individuals to emulate the trust and respond to society’s needs by giving a helping hand. Editor@1
