MATHEWS NDANDULA writes SENIOR citizens in Kanyama constituency are calling for Government to help them with more empowerment programmes that will enable them earn a living, especially in light of the financial turmoil caused by Covid-19. Despite donations to community members in the area, it is not enough to carter for all the needy on a long term basis says Clifford Malicaha a resident of Kanyama. Speaking when he received food hampers donated to Kanyama Ward 10 councillor Brighton Bilumba by Fyakwalesa organisation, Mr Malicahacalled on government to draw up a programme to assist senior citizens attains financial stability. He then thanked the donors for the gesture and asked them to continue with the good works of looking after the vulnerable in the community. And Monica Mumbi Mushili, country director of FyakwalesaOrganization said their aim is to reach out to the vulnerable and provide support, so far over 200 women and youths have benefitted from empowerment programmes through skills training. Kanyama Ward 10 area councillor Bilumba said the donation to the elderly members of the community would go a long way in promoting community-led development. Recently, area member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri has been on the ground supporting men, women and youths in various empowerment programmes. The Sun
