Govt to tackle land wrangles – HH

BY Jackson MapapayiPresident Hakainde Hichilema says he is aware of land matters where some people are being displaced by other people who have just come in Mushindamo and Kalilele in particular.Mr Hichilema said he has been furnished with the full details of the matter and that soon, it will be addressed and be put to rest. He said his government will not tolerate the displacement of people who have been staying on land left by their forefathers. He said every Zambian is entitled to land whether customary or state for their survivor.“I am therefore assuring those affected that this issue will soon be a thing of the past. It will be addressed, “said Mr Hichilema.He wondered why the previous government gave a blind eye on the matter which borders on human dignity. On the establishment of the central business district, the President has directed district authorities to quickly sort out the matter in order to foster development in the area. He said the issue should be attended to with the urgency it deserves so that people can see the benefits of the creation of the district.He accused the previous government of being behind the delay in establishing a CBD due to personal interests by some individuals. “But come January 2022 under our national budget, we will ensure that funds are set aside for the commencement of the construction of infrastructure for the Zambia police, health, education, civic center including roads, “he said.He also said his government will prioritise the completion of the Solwezi- Kipushi road which he said has been in a deplorable state for some time. “The road is of economic value and in order to increase traffic which will result into increased revenue, we will ensure that it is completely worked on,” he said. The President was speaking when he drummed up support for the UPND candidate in the Kalilele local government by election slated for Thursday 21 October.
