GOVERNMENT has expressed happiness with the pace at which the construction of the Chibombo Multi-Facility Economic Zone (CMEZ) in Central Province is progressing. Minister of Commence, Trade, and Industry, Christopher Yaluma also says the US$600 Million investment, is likely to create jobs and will help the country to actualize value addition from the vast raw materials that the country is endowed with. ZANIS reports that Mr Yaluma made the remarks, when he toured the Economic Zone in Chibombo district to check on the work progress. Recently, the Commerce minister launched the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LS-MFEZ) Strategic Plan for the period 2021 – 2025. The launch of the Strategic Plan provides a clear road map for promotion and facilitation of private sector participation in the development of the Multi Facility Economic Zones in Zambia and accelerating the Country’s industrialization agenda. This occasion also signifies Government’s commitment to reinvigorate the economy. The Minister stated that the economic zones in Zambia are meant to create a platform for the country to achieve economic development by attracting significant domestic and foreign direct investment. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continue to promote Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone which has demonstrated the capacity to increase investment in the manufacturing sector and notable among the prominent flag carriers of stimulating industrialization in the country.
