Daka a champion!
AARON MUBANGA writes ZAMBIA national team forward Patson Daka emerged as the Redbull Salzburg Player of the Champions round, after garnering 61% of votes on an online poll. Daka was up against the Austrian FAs player of the season, Hungarian teenage sensation Dominik Szoboszlai, right back Albert Vallci and Brazilian defender Andre Ramalho. His win drew congratulations from the Republican President Edgar Lungu and other notable personalities. Daka, who yesterday jetted into the country with his club mate EnockMwepu, enjoyed a good run this season. The Austrian Bundesliga is divided into two segments after week 22 with the six top teams battling for the title in what is called the Champions round where they play ten games facing each side at home and away. The former Power Dynamos striker could not beat Israeli forward Shon Zalman Weissman to the golden boot but he managed to score seven goals and four assists in the final ten matches. Meanwhile, there are reports emerging out of Germany that the Chipolopolo striker’s 27 goals and 12 assists in 45 games for the Austrian champions, has led to mentions of his name in the AC Milan’s offices. With former Salzburg manager Ralf Rangnick said to take over as AC Milan’s manager next season, the German coach wants Daka and a few of his teammates to join him in Serie A. “According to Austro-German outlet SPOX, Rangnick could look to raid his former employers Red Bull for three of their prized assets,” reported Sempre Milan. “Salzburg duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Patson Daka are on the Rossoneri’s shopping list while Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer is also a favourite of Rangnick,” added the publication. – ZAMFOOT The Sun
