Mufumbwe rallies for forests support
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI COOPERATING partners in Mufumbwe District have been urged to continue rendering support to Government in the preservation of forests. Mufumbwe District Commissioner (DC) Haggai Kalota, said that Government appreciated the importance of the forests in the development of the country. The DC stated that this was the reason why Government would continue promoting initiatives aimed at preserving the country’s natural to resource through the department of Forestry. He was speaking during the tree planting exercise organised and being implemented by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in collaboration with the Forestry department. “Apart from that, Government is also encouraging private sector participation in the preservation of nature,” he said. He has commended WWF and other cooperating partners for their continued support in preserving the forests through tree planting. “And they should not relent in all their efforts. Let me also take this opportunity to encourage other institutions to come in board and by emulating what WWF is doing,” he said. Earlier, WWF Kabompo Landscape officer, Jimmy Muwowo, applauded the district administration for according his organization an opportunity to operate Mufumbwe. He said his organization would continue supporting Government in the area of forest preservation as well as sensitising communities on the importance of preserving forest.
