POLICE in Isoka have warned and cautioned Chief Katyetye for assault, Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Joel Njase has confirmed.
Mr Njase said Chief Katyetye allegedly assaulted Ireen Nakanyika 19 of Lutete village in Chief Katyetye’s area by instructing his retainer to flog her.
Mr Njase said the incident occurred on Friday around 10:00 hours at Chief Katyetye’ s Palace in the Isoka District.
“Female Ireen Nakanyika aged 19 years of Lutete Village, Chief Katyetye, District Isoka reported the subject offence of assault O.A.B.H, the suspects being males Chief Katyetye one Jeremiah Jasusi Mutamboof the said Chiefdom and Kelvin Njobvu a Chief Returner of Chief Katyetye,”Mr Njase said.
Mr Njase said the victim reported that she was whipped by the said suspects causing her to sustain swollen buttocks.
The Commissioner said it was alleged that a stick was used in the act.
“The brief facts are such that on Sunday 14/06/2020 around 18:00 hours female Ireen Nakanyika borrowed a bicycle from his uncle male Sigen Sinyinza aged 25 years of the same abode and went to Muzabwela within the same Chiefdom to buy local beer commonly known as katata, before they returned home male Sigen Sinyinzafollowed them to Muzabwela Village and approached the victim demanding to carnally know her as payment for using his bicycle, this did not go well with the victim prompting her to report the matter to her mother, Eveness Nankonde,” he said.
He said the mother summoned Sigen Sinyangwe to inquire why he sexually harassed his niece and later reported the matter before Chief Katyetye.
The Commissioner of Police Chief Katyetye summoned Corporal Punishment to both the victim and the suspect.
He said the Chief allegedly instructed his retainer Kelvin Njobvu to the whip Sigen Sinyangwe the suspect and Ireen Nakanyika the victim causing her to sustain swollen buttocks prompting her to report the matter at Isoka Police Station.
“Acting on this report, Insp Siankali physically inspected the victim and she observed swollen marks on the buttocks suggestive that the victim was allegedly whipped. She was interviewed and she disclosed that, Chief Katyetye ordered his Chief Retainer to whip them as earlier stated,” he said.
Mr Njase said the medical report has been obtained and Chief has promised to avail his retainer who is currently out visiting his relatives so that they are jointly charged.
