Unregistered teachers cautioned
ANDREW MUKOMA writes THE Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) in South-West region has reminded teachers that have not yet acquired practicing licences to do so and avoid last minute disappointments. Next month, the TCZ would embark on an intense teacher inspection in all the districts of Western Province. TCZ Regional Coordinator, Fightwell Mutambo, told the Daily Nation in Livingstone that the council had been issuing reminders about the imperative need to get practising certificates, but some teachers were still reluctant to formalize their mandatory requirements. Mr Mutambo said TCZ was, therefore, sending a final reminder to the teachers before conducting an inspection. However, Mr Mutambo said he was happy that there was a positive compliance level on teacher registration in the province. “We are collecting data in Western Province to ascertain the exact number of people who have applied for teacher practice certificate. I think we are finalizing that by the end of August. Once we are done, we will be able to consolidate the data,” Mr Mutambo said. He said preliminary indications were that there were more than 70 per cent of teachers that had pro-applied. “We’ve planned to do a very protracted teacher inspection before the end of August and this time around, those that we are going to find wanting will face the consequences,” Mr Mutambo said.
