POLICE in Lusaka have arrested a 17 year old female juvenile for Infanticide.
The Kanayama resident is suspected of having caused the death of a new-born and arrested but is currently receiving medical attention.
Acting police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, who confirmed to Lusaka Sun in a telephone interview said that the incident happened in Kanyama compound on Thursday.
Mr Chilabi said the aunty to the juvenile noticed that there was a baby crying in the bedroom and when she went to check, she found her niece had delivered a baby.
Mr Chilabi said that upon inspecting the baby she discovered that it had a cut from the head to the ear.
The juvenile and baby were rushed to Kanyama clinic but later referred to University Teaching Hospital where the baby later died.
“We are holding the girl for suspected infanticide but she is currently seeking medical attention because she just delivered.
“Police suspect a sharp object was used,” he said.
