Fisherman drowns, body recovered
FISHERMEN in Chasefu District of Eastern province have retrieved the body of their fellow 28-year- old fisherman who drowned in Luwerezistream of Senior Chief Magodi’s area. The body of Muthuba Mumba of Wadilika village was recovered on Tuesday after a three day search following a report that the victim had drowned in Luwerezi stream during a fishing expedition. Chasefu District Commissioner, Mustapher Banda, confirmed the incident to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview, following a report he received from the local police. Mr Banda said the incident happened on May 23  around 18:00 hours when Mumba suspected to have been in a drunken state ventured on a fishing expedition on Luwerezi stream but did not return home. The DC explained that the relatives to the deceased made a follow up to the stream the next day but only found a stick, which was used to hold fishing net on the ground and a canoe he was using floating on the stream.  He said the relatives later mobilised a search team of local fishermen, who later conducted a search patrol in the water where they found the body of the victim trapped within a fishing net at the bottom of the stream. Mr Banda disclosed that police instructed the bereaved family to bury the body   after the family were satisfied that no foul play was involved into his death.  Meanwhile, an uncle to the victim, Induna Rainson Mumba told ZANIS that the body of the deceased has since been buried at Wadilika burial site. -ZANIS.
