Zambia Police acting spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the incident in a statement. He said that the incident occurred on Friday, June 26, 2020 at around 22:00 hours. He said that brief facts are that the security guard from Magnum Security by the name of Victor Mfune aged 43 of  John Laing compound who was on duty guarding the same premises saw smoke coming out from the roof of the building (Autoworld).  Mr. Mwale said Police immediately activated the fire station and four fire engines were dispatched to the scene.  “Later, reinforcement from Zambia Air Force fire fighters and a team from Zesco arrived at the scene. Power was disrupted in the Central Business District to avoid fire from spreading to other buildings.  “Pierre Findlay, aged 44, one of the managers of Auto World stated that most of the goods burnt were tires and oil lubricants, “he said. He said that the fire was put off at 09:48 hours today Saturday, June 27, 2020,he added that value of property burnt and the damage caused to the building is yet to be established.  Police have since opened an Inquiry and investigations have been instituted.
