Chief cries for face masks
SIMON MUNTEMBA writes MOST of the people in my Chiefdom do not have face masks to prevent themselves from contracting COVID-19 because they cannot afford to buy, says Chief Mishoro of the Ngoni people of Kasenengwa District. And Chief Mishoro said he had suspended all public gatherings in his Chiefdom including traditional initiation ceremonies such as Chinamwali in an effort to prevent COVID-19. In an interview, Chief Mishoro said he has engaged his headmen to help in sensitizing members of the public in the chiefdom but people could not wear face masks because they have no money to buy.  He has called on government and other stakeholders to help provide the people in his chiefdom with facemasks and other sanitary facilities. “We have taken coronavirus seriously in my chiefdom but the problem is that most of my people do not have masks as they cannot afford to buy them. My appeal to government and stakeholders is please, please help us with face masks,” the traditional leader said.  Chief Mishoro said he was personally worried with a rising number of people infected with Covid-19 stating that it was a clear testimony that the pandemic was real. The traditional leader said that preventive measures and guidelines set by the Ministry of Health must be taken seriously by all Zambians. He further advised his subjects to continue observing social distancing and regular washing of hands to avoid the spread of the pandemic. The Sun
