DMMU donates relief food in Lunga District
SHINGA ward counselor shepherd Kabanshi in Lunga District , Luapula Province, has thanked government for donating over 2,400 of 25kg bags of mealie meal to Bwalya Mponda Chiefdom in Bangweulu wetlands. Mr. Kabanshi says that the 2,436 bags of mealie meal donated by Disaster Management and mitigation Unit will go a long way in reducing starvation levels in people’s homes. He says that he is pleased with the way mealie meal distributions were carried out as his ward was not left out as it also benefited about 900 bags. ZANIS reports that the counselor said in an interview, yesterday, that this donation made by Government has cheered many in the community and the Chiefdom at large. He further added that the mealie meal donated is indeed a relief  to the poor and vulnerable who literally had little or nothing to feed their families. And one of the beneficiaries Ednah Seke, a 75 year old woman of Mutoni village has expressed contentment at the Government’s efforts in reducing hunger in her village. Ms Seke said in an interview that the donation came at a right time when many families were living in impending hunger. She has since appreciated DMMU for coming to the aid of the vulnerable in her community. After the district experienced floods which destroyed their cassava fields. ZANIS The Sun
