ZINDABA DEMANDS K500,000 FROM PETITIONER
By GRACE  CHAILE LESOETSA CHIPATA Central Constituency independent candidate Zindaba Soko’s lawyers have given a voter three days in which to pay K500,000 as costs in a matter where she wanted the Constitutional Court to invalidate his nomination. Ms Cynthia Zulu wanted the Concourt to declare that the Electoral Commission of  Zambia (ECZ) was not allowed to accept Mr Soko’s nomination as   MP because he was allegedly dismissed from public office,  as Road Traffic and Safety Agency  chief executive officer on grounds of misconduct within the past five years as per article 70(2)(b) of the Constitution no 2 of 2016. Ms Zulu however discontinued the case but the Concourt condemned her to pay costs. Mr Soko’s advocates AKM Legal Practioners in a letter dated May 27,2021 are demanding K500,000 as the money it spent to prosecute the matter. “Following the discontinuance of your petition before the Constitutional court of Zambia and the court having condemned you to pay costs, we now seek payment of our legal costs in the sum of K500,000.00 within three days from the day of receipt of this  letter failure to which, we shall proceed tax our costs,” read the letter.
