‘Zambian economy requires innovation’
BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes @SunZambian THIS year will require participation by all stakeholders and leadership to transform the economy coupled with innovation, says Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) president, Muyaywa Kabisa. Mr Kabisa said 2021 would require active involvement in most social, political and economic activities of membership concern at all levels. He said in a statement that failures and successes for last year should stand as experiences for the country to build strong foundations for years to come. “We do not expect significant positive change in our economy to trigger significant adjustments to workers conditions of service as the Covid-19 dilemma still threatens world economies, making more strict control measures such as shutdowns and closedowns more eminent,” he said. Mr Kabisa also urged reminded the UG leadership and members that 2021 would require active involvement in most social, political and economic activities of membership concern at all levels. “2021 will not only be busy because of the General Elections; much activities will be seen in the Trade Union Movement; mostly, rivalry as most Unions will have to do all they can to survive as new Unions have come on the scene and some may still come in to find their place. “Most Unions, especially the old ones may significantly lose membership and some new ones may not grow to desired numbers,” he said. Mr Kabisa further said: “2021 will require new approaches to programming, membership service and benefits. 2021 will require active involvement in most social, political and economic activities of membership concern at all levels.”
