Zambia will record bumper harvest – Katambo
By SILUMESI MALUMO ZAMBIA will record a bumper harvest despite the floods that hit some parts of the country, Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo has said. Mr Katambo said a survey conducted recently showed that there was no serious damage of crops during this rainy season. He said in an interview that only 10 percent of fields had been affected by floods during this rainy season and that this would not affect the country’s harvest. “I can assure you that we shall record a bumper harvest this year even when we have experienced floods. A survey has been done across the country and the findings are that only 10 percent of the fields have been affected by the floods. “So this percentage cannot affect our harvest. So the Zambians should know that there will be a bumper harvest in the country,” Mr Katambo said. Meanwhile, Mr Katambo said the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) had provided help to farmers whose fields had been affected. Mr Katambo said the DMMU had ensured that all affected farmers were attended to.
