By TAWANDA MUNYUKIPRESIDENT Edgar Lungu was yesterday among thousands of Lusaka residents who observed the 2020 National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation at the Show Grounds.The day was observed across the country as the nation joined hands in seeking the face of God over national matters.The main event, which was also graced by the presence of the First Lady Esther and attended by dignitaries from the church, political parties, civil society and individuals was characterised by dances and songs.The event was conducted under the new normal in strict observance of Covid-19 guidelines.The worship festival was commemorated under the theme ‘Zambia seeks God’s intervention for sustained national unity, peace and prosperity’.Northmead Assemblies of God Overseer Joshua Banda urged political leaders not to make perpetual enemies with each other but make every effort to make peace with one another.“We pray that as you combine influence wherever you are, make every effort to be at peace with one another as political players,” Bishop Banda said.He said leaders should make peace with one another behind the scenes especially that the country goes to the polls next year. Bishop Banda said the Church would also fulfill its priestly mandate in the country.And Independent Churches of Zambia (ICOZ) chairperson David Masupa thanked God for the natural resources that Zambia is blessed with.Bishop Masupa asked God to bring healing on Zambia in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic that has affected over 15,000 citizens.Zambians from different walks of life gathered in different parts of the country to take part in the commemoration.Advocates for the Declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation chairperson Billy said there was a need for peace and unity.Bishop Mfula said citizens should be united and not be separated on tribal or political lines.“We need to continually pray for peace and unity as a nation. We should not be divided on tribal or political lines,” he said.
