‘Zambia could have raised US$220bn in cannabis exports’

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA ZAMBIA would have made about US$220 billion in revenue between 2014 and now, had the country implemented the cannabis policy we have been talking about, the Zambian Hemp Growers and Industries Association (Zam Hemp) has said. Zam Hemp president, Peter Sinkamba said this was supposed to be the total revenue for the country in the cultivation and exportation of cannabis for medicinal purposes. He said with this kind of revenue, the country would have cleared the huge debt that was hindering economic growth. Mr Sinkamba, who the Green Party president said the quick implementation of the policy would have been seeing the country making about US$36 billion in a year. “Had the voters listened to us back then when we as the Green Party were campaigning, the country would have been in huge amounts of money right now. “We would have helped raise such an amount of money for the country because we came up with the idea and only us could have managed to handle it,” he said in an interview. Mr Sinkamba advised those that were insulting President Edgar Lungu to stop because he was elected through the ballot. He said insulting the president who was elected through the ballot was the same as insulting the constitution of the country which was not right. Mr Sinkamba said the electorate made their choice which should be respected either by other people or the voters themselves.
