YALI CHALLENGES CASILLI
DIEGO Casilli must explain whose interest he is advancing by meddling in Zambia’s internal politics, says the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI)). YALI president Andrew Ntewewe said Mr Casilli, who is the Honorary Consul General for Belgium, should be stripped of the position and if not Zambian should be expelled from Zambia for what he termed as “overt and blatant interference” in the country’s internal affairs.  This follows controversy surrounding the Parallel Voter Tabulation (PVT) project scheduled for the August 12 elections which sparked protest among OCiDA members. Mr Casilli confirmed that he was involved but explained that: “we proposed the PVT concept to OCiDA. Due to limitations of funding, OCiDA took the decision to withdraw from the collaboration.” Mr Ntewewe challenged the Zambian and Belgium governments to probe Mr Casilli’s activities to ensure that Belgium was not implicated in Zambian politics. “This is a very serious matter,” he said. He said elections were a national sacred security matter in which only indigenous Zambians should take part without the interference of diplomats
