Work with us in Covid-19 fight- Cleaning body
THE Cleaning Association of Zambia (CAZ) has appealed to Government and other authorities to work with its members in identifying and procuring correct chemicals for the fight against Covid-19. In an interview yesterday, CAZ president Lawrence Makumbi said as Corona virus cases continue to rise, there is a danger of some unscrupulous people flooding the market with counterfeit hand sanitizers and disinfectants. Mr. Makumbi said such chemicals pose a risk of having harmful effects on people’s health and may not be effective in the fight against Covid-19. He said the authorities, especially in schools and other learning institutions, should work with the CAZ members manufacturing correct chemicals to ensure an effective fight against Covid-19. And Mr. Makumbi said he decided to help Government at a personal level after seeing that some people have just been talking and not fulfilling their pledges. “I found it prudent and dedicated 30 days of my personal life to work with health workers and help in ensuring that we fight this Corona virus. I offered and donated my Toyota Hilux twin cab to the Ministry of Health in any mission or any duties to ferry workers, swabs, chemicals and other things around Lusaka or any other place in Zambia. “I have now worked for the past 20 days and what I have found is that health workers on the ground are doing a great job. They are working tirelessly throughout the day and the night to make sure that whatever Covid-19 alert comes through we are there,” Mr. Makumbi said. He said the workers are responding to alerts within communities in Lusaka and swabbing all foreigners and Zambians that are coming in and taking them to places where they are being quarantined. Mr. Makumbi said the workers have checked on households, inspected churches and schools that are scheduled to reopen on June 1, 2020 following a Presidential directive. “The work that is being done on the ground to fight this Corona virus is overwhelming hence my plea that every citizen must unite and work together regardless of race, tribe, or political affiliation. I can only do so much with my own motor vehicle and labour but I know that there are people out there who can be motivated by my act to do something. “Let us help the health workers because they are working under difficult circumstances. It is a risky job to swab suspected Corona virus patients. You cannot give a car but you can buy gloves and masks for health workers to ensure that this pandemic is fought. If a person like Information minister Dora Siliya can be infected who are the people in compounds to be moving without a mask, to be moving without hand sanitizer and doing things like business as usual?” The Sun
