Woman kills her newly-born baby

By JOHN KOMBEA 21-YEAR-OLD woman in Chongwe has been arrested for killing and burying her newlyborn baby.The woman is believed to have secretly given birth at the residence of her parents’ residence in Mutanuka village, between November 10th and 12th. She then burried the body in a shallow grave, but a dog exhumed the remains and dumped them in the neighbour’s yard where it was discovered in the morning on Thursday last week.Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo, confirmed the sad development to the Daily Nation. Ms Katongo identified the woman as Mary Bupe Mutale, 21, who secretly buried the baby in a shallow grave behind their house.Police visited the scene of crime and the dead body was picked and deposited at Chongwe District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.She said that the suspect had been charged with child destruction and currently detained in police custody in Chongwe.Meanwhile, some neigbours talked to expressed shock at the incidence. A neighbour, who sought anonymity, urged women to learn to take responsibility for their actions and not to resort to killing innocent lives all because of frustrations. She revealed that the girl had a four year old child and could not afford to have another child while she was being kept by her parents.
