TWO people have died while nine others are admitted to Zambezi district hospital with injuries following a road traffic accident on the Kabompo-Zambezi road. The accident happened after a Toyota Regius they were traveling in careered off the road and overturned at Kalambo area. North Western province Commissioner of Police, Elias Chushi, confirmed the accident which happened on Friday at 12:30 hours. The accident happened when the driver, Shentwana Chilongoshi aged 25 of Parklands area in Kitwe lost control and careered of the road. Mr Chushi said the Toyota Regius registration number ACV 6208 was extensively damaged. The vehicle was moving at an excessive speed because it overturned twice before resting with its wheels upwards All the victims are currently admitted to Zambezi district hospital, while the bodies of the deceased are lying in the same hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examinations. Mr Chushi added that the driver is in a critical condition and is yet to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Mr Chushi said Princess Nyirenda, 20, of Bulangililo in Kitwe died from fatal injuries on arrival at Zambezi district hospital and Eliud Mbaulu aged nine months also died from fatal injuries at the same hospital. “A Fatal RTA occurred on 07.08.20 around 12:30 hours at Kalambo area along Kabompo Zambezi. Involved was Shentwana Chilongoshi 25 of Parklands in Kitwe who whilst driving a motor vehicle Toyota Regiusregistration number ACV 6208 with 11 passengers on board, from East to West direction along the said road. “He lost control due to excessive speed and overturned twice before it rested on the right side of the road with its wheels upwards,” he explained. He identified the injured as Shentwana Chilongoshi the driver and Kakoma Wesley Mbundu aged 41 a Pastor of Bulangililo Other victims were Precious Mbaulu aged 26 of Lwitadi area, Zambezi District,  Margret Mutale aged 48 of Bulangililo Township, Kitwe, Owen Lutangu aged 30 of Mushona area Zambezi District and Wami Mbundu Kakoma aged six years. Mr Chushi named other accident victims as Grace Makasa aged 33 of Bulangililo Township, Peter Mbundu Kakoma aged 20 months of Bulangililo Township, Kitwe and Mafo Timothy aged 25 who all sustained injuries. “The motor vehicle is extensively damaged and the driver is yet to be charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving C/Sec 161(1) of Act No. 11 of 2002 as he is in a critical condition”, he said. – ZANIS The Sun
