WOMAN, BABY DROWN IN MUSHINDANO
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI A 23-year-old woman and her child aged one year ten months have drowned in Munyonshi river Mushindamo district. North-Western Province Commissioner of Police, Joel Njase, identified the woman as, Josephine Peyela, who was crossing the river in dugout canoe when she met her fate. “The woman is said to have been going to attend a funeral but the canoe capsized due to the wind whilst paddling,” he said. He said the bodies have since been retrieved and deposited in solwezi general hospital mortuary awaiting burial. In another incident, another 23-year-old woman in Mwinilunga district has been raped by two men, who have since been arrested Mr Njase said the incident happened on Monday around 21:00 hours at the victim’s place in Kabanda compound. Police identified the suspects as Kazeya Ngomi and Chrispin Kanayi aged 20 and 21 respectively. “The incident was reported by the victim that she had been raped by the two suspects who both stay in Kabanda compound,” Mr Njase added. He said that the suspects have been charged with rape and would appear in court soon.
