By MUYANI SHINJABALEMORE than 200 residents of Kanyala area in Ndola have received relief mealie meal from the Disaster Management Mitigation Unit (DMMU).Ndola Central Member of Parliament (MP), Emmanuel Mulenga, distributed the relief mealie meal from the DMMU to more than 200 residents of Kanyala area in Kanini ward.In an interview, Jane Chishala, a resident in the area said she was grateful to Government for having thought of the less privileged in society.Ms Chishala, who is a widow and trader of vegetables, stated that she found it hard to feed and take care of her household especially when she did not sell anything.She said the mealie meal would go a long way in sustaining her family especially during this time when she was not making enough money from her sales.Karen Chipasha, another beneficiary, encouraged Government to continue taking the plight of the people seriously and providing them with relief food.And the MP said Government was aware of the challenges the vulnerable people in society were facing amidst the negative effects of COVID-19.Mr Mulenga, who is also Youth, Sport and Child Development Minister, said President Edgar Lungu was aware of the hunger in many vulnerable households.He said the mealie meal that was being distributed was part of the 5,000 bags of 12.5 kilogrammes the DMMU donated to the people of Ndola Central Constituency.
