BUUMBA CHIMBULU writes@SunZambianTHE construction of the US$40 million Standard Chartered Bank Zambia new head office building has been completed.Standard Chartered Bank head of corporate affairs, brand and marketing Christine Matambo said this imposing building boasts energy-efficiency features, including an on-site water purification system, an automatic energy saving lighting system.Ms Matambo said in a statement that the building’s critical installations would be powered via solar system, and it would be a plastic-free environment, amongst many others.She said this new investment had also seen local business engagement in its construction, which contributed to local job creation. “We are super excited that our new head office building is now complete – we are set for operations. We cannot wait to move into what is arguably the best building in Zambia!”“This US$40million investment is testament to Standard Chartered Bank’s long history and continued commitment to Zambia for the long-term. We are very proud of our new Head Office building, which sits in the heart of Lusaka,” Ms Matambo said.It will also be the first-ever corporate building in Zambia to meet the global EDGE Green Building certification.Ms Matambo said these were just some of the contemporary features of Standard Chartered Bank’s new head office building.She said Standard Chartered Bank staff would soon make the big move from Cairo Road to the new building within the next six weeks, which has brought much excitement.“We are, indeed, here in Zambia for good,” Ms Matambo said.The iconic Jacaranda trees which line the street where the building stands have remained intact, in line with the Bank’s national tree conservation efforts.It does not only adds to the city’s skyline, but also shows that 115 years on, the banks remain firmly rooted in Zambia, firmly committed to our clients and to this economy.Located at the corner of Mwaimwena Road and Addis Ababa Drive near the Taj Pamodzi Hotel, the Bank’s new head office building has EDGE Green Building Certification, will boast a new retail banking branch, contemporary cafes, and ample parking space for staff, clients and visitors alike.
