South villagers get COVID-19 tips
By ANDREW MUKOMAA NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisation (NGO), operating in Livingstone, Kazungula and Zimba districts, has trained over 20 volunteers and sent them out to sensitize villagers about the novel corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic.Response Network has further distribution over 300 face masks to the guardians of the over 600 schoolgirls the organization is sponsoring in various schools to prevent them from contracting the disease.Response Network Country Director, Matengenya Mutukwa, said that a total of K170,000 would be spent on the programme to fight against COVID-19.Mr Mutukwa said the 23 trained volunteers had been dispatched to communities in Kuyaba, Simwatachela, Sipatunyana chiefdoms and other areas to sensitize the villagers about the COVID-19.“As Response Network, we have taken up a strategy to fight the COVID-19. We cannot underestimate the impact it has caused on many companies.“Our strategy is to ensure that we continue operating by directing our efforts in sensitizing the community about the corona virus. We have embarked on sensitizing the rural communities on how they can make hand sanitizers with the local products by mixing methylated spirit and glycerine,” he said.Mr Mutukwa said the programme would run up to August this year.And Response Network programmes coordinator, Elizabeth Banda, said that the organizations was sponsoring 600 girls in various schools in the three districts and would distribute face masks to all those that were looking after the girls.
