SANGWA CHALLENGED TO PRESENT PETITION NOW
By NATION REPORTER CONSTITUTIONAL lawyer John Sangwa should bring forward his presidential petition regarding President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility which he claims is ready, Eastern Province Minister Makebi Zulu has said. Mr Zulu, a lawyer and PF Malambo Member of Parliament (MP), said the presidential petition was a non-issue which had already been settled. He was reacting to Mr Sangwa’s sentiments that a petition against President Lungu contesting the 2021 elections was ready. Mr Zulu said Mr Sangwa’s petition should be brought forward and would be dealt with immediately. “Mr Sangwa represented LAZ in that case and the judgement was very clear. He says he has this petition on his laptop, let him bring it, we will respond and we will make sure he pays costs personally,” Mr Zulu said. He said Mr Sangwa was trying to be oblivious on a matter that was already settled but urged him to continue talking if his interest was to remain relevant on the political field. He also described Mr Sangwa’s suggestion to prove Bill 10 popularity by subjecting it to a referendum as laughable. Mr Zulu said Mr Sangwa should talk about the benefits of the Bill such as creating certainty on the issue of mixed member representation, recognition of chiefs, promoting women representation in parliament among other issues rather than issuing misleading statements on the matter.
