Mulenga Musonda writes@sunzambianThe Choma Magistrates Courts has sentenced a 25 years old man to 60 days simple imprisonment term for stealing a bag of Irish potatoes.In this matter, Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri convicted Kaleya Masusu for Theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.Particulars of the offence are that Kaleya on October 26 stole 1 ×50Kg bag of Irish potatoes valued at K900 the property Lament Chikanta.When he appeared for plea before Court, he willingly admitted the charge against him compelling the Court to record a plea guilty.According to the Facts stated by the Public Prosecutor the suspect was apprehended after he left a trail of footprints behind.Despite Kaleya pleading that he was led to steal because of hunger, Magistrate Phiri slapped him with 60 days simple imprisonment term.Kaleya was informed of his rights to appeal to the High Court within 14 days if he was not happy with the ruling.
