Poor state of Nico road worries residents
ANDREW MUKOMA Writes@SunZambianRESIDENTS of Nico and Kavulamwanda areas in Namwala District, Southern Province have expressed worry about the bad state of the Nico-Namwala road.The residents complained that the road which was done over 10 years ago and had developed some potholes which were putting people’s lives at risk.In an interview with the Daily Nation, the residents expressed frustration over the neglect of the road by successive governments.They lamented that the poor state of the road had brought hardships on them while a number of accidents had been recorded.They charged that for some motorists who had never used the road, it was difficult for them to negotiate with curves and potholes.Melvin Muleya, a resident of Nico, said that precious lives had been lost on the road in road crashes.Another resident, Charles Mwiya, of Kavulamwanda, said that authorities should consider repairing the road urgently.Mr Mwiya complained that ever since the road was commissioned in 2008, there had been no maintenance work on the stretch.He appealed to the area Member of Parliament Lubezhi Moono to engage the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure so that the road could be worked.
