Police post rejected
KETRA KALUNGA writes A POST Post in Kabwe Central constituency which was built using the constituency development fund has been rejected by the Zambia police service in the district and the community for not meeting the required standards. Area Member of Parliament (MP), Tutwa Ngulube lashed out at the contractor for the shoddy works on the project despite being paid almost the full amount when he inspected the facility in May this year. During the inspection by the CDF committee and inspectors from the Kabwe municipal council, it was observed that the project which commenced in 2013 and built like a house had no windows in the holding cells and space for the front desk among other things. Mr Ngulube said yesterday in an interview with the Lusaka Sun   that the commissioning of the police post still stands in the balance as the police have rejected it because the contractor engaged did not follow the plan used to construct such a facility. “Makandanyama police post has issues, the police have so many observations and are saying  they  can’t start using the police post until the observations are attended to,” said Mr Ngulube. Mr Nguube who is also the parliamentary deputy chief whip said once the ministry of local government authorises that changes be made to the building, they would go ahead and finish the project. The Kabwe central lawmaker said the project required a lot of money for it to meet the standard of the police, especially that the contractor was already paid almost the full amount for the works done. “If we received some more CDF it would be very easy to finish the police post because right now the money has been spent mostly on other projects and the contractor was already paid in full so there is a lot of money that needs to go in for it to reach the standard that the police want,” said Mr Ngulube Meanwhile, Mr Ngulube has disclosed that the Katondo police post would soon be handed over to the community once the water and electrical connections are done. He further said works on all the 48 CDF projects implemented in the constituency have reached 50 percent completion and has since appealed to the ministry of local government for more funds so that the works could be expedited.
