Police makes more arrests in Nakonde day-light robbery
POLICE in Nakonde in Muchinga Province, has arrested two more people and recovered some cash in connection with the robbery that took place in the border town last week in which K81,000 was snatched. The police has recovered about K74, 000 cash in total from the time the robbery happened last week. Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joe Njase has confirmed the arrest of two people who are also customs clearing agents and the recovery of cash in an interview with ZANIS in Chinsali yesterday.  Eng Njase said the police have made progress in bringing to book all the people involved in the day-light robbery that occurred on July 10 this month around 09:40 hours at Manyanya  Shopping Complex in Nakonde. The two armed thieves staged a day light robbery at the shopping complex and got away with money amounting to K81, 672. He said police officers on Friday morning further apprehended and recovered an amount of  K15,340 from two (2) Clearing Agents both of Nakonde District in connection with the aggravated robbery which occurred at ManyanyaComplex. He named the two clearing agents as Jonas Simpito 28, of Katozi village in Chieftainess Waitwika’s area and Abel Sikaonga 22, of Ntindi village of the same chiefdom in Nakonde.  “Our officers have recovered K 7,560.00 from male SimpitoJonas aged 28 years of Katozi Village, Chief Waitwika and a K 7,780 from male Sikaonga Abel aged 22 years of NtindiVillage, Chief Waitwika,” said Eng Njase.  He added the officers were led to the recovery of the stolen money by two suspects which they were hiding in the celling board of their respective homes. The police chief said the apprehension of the two suspects was after a tip off from concerned members of the public after information went round that the said suspects, had visited a 50-years named a Witchdoctor of Ntindi Village in order to acquire charms to prevent the police from apprehending them. He said the two suspects have been detained in police custody and the recovered money has been kept as exhibit while investigations in the matter have continued.  On Monday, July 13, 2020, tlast week police in NakondeDistrict recovered 3 AK 47 riffles with 58 rounds of ammunition and K9, 000 cash, alleged to be connected to the day-light robbery that took place at the shopping complex. Eng Njase said that the fire arms and ammunition were recovered from Chitambi Village in Chief Waitwika’s area in the house of Chrispin Siame aged 39 who is on the run. “The house were the fire arms and ammunition were recovered belongs to the brother-in-law to the suspect in custody male Jason Simbeye,” said Eng Njase. He said the officers have further recovered K 9,000.00 from the house of the mother to the female suspect Theresa Nakaundi aged 54 of Kaombwe Village. – ZANIS The Sun
