NAPSA Stars must not be discouraged by the 5-0 bashing in the CAF Confederations Cup by Cameroonian giants Coton Sport FC, says Zamia Sports Fans Association patron Peter Makembo.
Makembo said Napsa Stars should be proud of their achievements in the CAF Confederations Cup where they reached the group stage in their maiden appearance in the continental competition.
He said the heavy defeat in Cameroon should motivate the team to come back stronger as they focus on the MTN Super League games.
With three defeats and one draw in Group B of the CAF Confederations Cup, Napsa remain stuck on fourth position with one point, eight points behind Coton Sport who claimed top spot in Group B with nine points from three wins and one defeat after four matches.
Meanwhile, Makembo has urged the Zambian champions Nkana FC to stay focused and work hard to reach the CAF Confederations Cup quarter finals.
Speaking after Nkana beat Tanzania’s Namungo FC 1-0 on Sunday to move to six points in Group G where they are third, Makembo said Nkana has a 100 percent chance of reaching the last eight of the continental championship after the weekend win.
He noted the need for Nkana not to fear Morocco’s Raja Casablanca and Egypt’s Pyramids FC who they will meet in the remaining two games to qualify.
“Despite their challenges in the Super League, Nkana have been great competitors in the Confederations Cup and now they have a chance to qualify to the quarter finals if they can get positive results against Pyramids and Raja Casablanca,” Makembo said.
“As for Napsa Stars, we are proud of their achievements as a country and we urge them to take each setback in the continental games as a lesson going forward.”
Nkana and Pyramids FC are on par with six points each. Pyramids however have a better head to head record having beaten Nkana 3-0 in Egypt.
Meanwhile, Raja Casablanca crushed Pyramids of Egypt 3-0 in Cairo on Sunday to become the first qualifiers for the Confederation Cup quarter-finals.
The victory was set up by DR Congo duo Fabrice Ngoma and Ben Malango, who both scored in the first half, before Moroccan star Soufiane Rahimi completed the rout with 13 minutes left to play.
