Peasant farmer jailed for stealing a pig

MULENGA MUSONDA writes @SunZambianA 40 years old Peasant Farmer will toil for 9 months after the Choma Magistrates Court convicted him for stealing a Pig.This was in a matter in which White Silimboyi was arraigned to Court charged with Stock Theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.Particulars of the offence are that Silimboyi on August 18 stole one Pig valued at K1,000 the property of Davyson Munyemba.When he appeared for plea before Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa, he willingly admitted the charge read to him.Court: Have you understood the charge?Silimboyi: Yes.Court: Do you admit or deny?Silimboyi: I admit.Court:Did you take away the said Pig?Silimboyi: Yes i took it.Court: Did the owner allow you?Silimboyi: NoCourt: Did you have any claim of right?Silimboyi: NoCourt: What did you intend to do with it?Silimboyi: I wanted to sell it and money realised, used to buy food.Court: I record a plea of guilty.According to the Facts stated by Public Prosecutor Coillard Sikwalulwa, the accused hid the Pig in a pit at his place and covered it with iron sheets before it was recovered by the owner .This was after the owner during the search for his missing Pig heard the animal squealing.When the statement was read to him, Silimboyi admitted that Facts were a true reflection of what happened.Magistrate Munukayumbwa found him guilty in his own admission and sentenced him to 9 months imprisonment with hard labour with effect from date of arrest.Silimboyi was informed of his rights to appeal to the High Court within 14 days if he was not happy with the ruling.
