OYDC ready for non-contact sports
MUKWIMA CHILALA writes  THE Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC-Zambia) says its plans to resume selected sports activities at the sports facility were on course. According to a statement from OYDC communication officer Noah Silomba, OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer Frederick Chitangala, says centre management will ensure that facility users are safe once non-contact sport activities restart . Dr Chitangala noted that following the engagement of relevant stakeholders, the OYDC Zambia, will now write to the local authority to seek for a clearance certificate. He said that once clearance is given, the centre would resume activities in tennis, badminton, table tennis, chess and others which do not involve any physical contact. He said that those who will be coming to conduct activities in the aforementioned sports disciplines will have to book the facility in advance. He noted that strict health measures will be adhered to as the nation grapples with the Covid-19. And Chitangala, said that activities such as the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge which engages hundreds of young talented athletes in beach volleyball, swimming, hockey, netball and taekwondo would only resume once the nation was declared Covid-19 free. Chitangala, spoke when he featured on the Saturday edition of the “Day Light” breakfast show on Kennmark Broadcasting Network KBN TV. The OYDC Zambia, on March 17, 2020 suspended “All Sport and Non-sport” activities indefinitely following the outbreak of the Covid-19. The Sports facility, has over 19 sports disciplines namely; athletics, judo, boxing, volleyball, football, handball, badminton, netball, weightlifting, hockey, table tennis, taekwondo, swimming, tennis, among others.
